History

Pride Durham History

The original "Durham Pride Association" was conceived by community members who learned of many more LGBT members in their local neighbourhood. Ideas and possibilities were tossed around. With this simple conversation Durham Pride Inc had begun.

2004 - About 150 LGBT people, family and friends gather under the banner "Whitby Pride" for a Saturday afternoon picnic in Heydenshore Park. A dance followed at Club 717, Oshawa's local gay bar.

2008 - Pride Durham becomes an Incorporated Non-Profit Organization. We have a complete board of directors and busy schedule of events, fundraisers and activities within Durham Region.

Current - Pride Durham Inc continues to grow and flourish. Increasing public awareness, community partners and attendance proves Pride Durham the event to attend.

We have come a long way!
